Can you treat a musty carpet after a leak?

Tell us about the leak and whether the area is fully dry. The moisture source needs to be dealt with first; carpet cleaning is not a damp repair or mould-remediation service.

Should I use an air freshener before the appointment?

Tell us about any products already applied. Covering a smell with fragrance does not remove its cause and can make the history harder to assess.

Can you promise the smell will disappear permanently?

No. The result depends on the source and how far contamination has spread. We explain what the proposed treatment can reasonably address.

What to expect from carpet odour removal

Find the source before adding fragrance

A smell may come from residue in the pile, but the backing, underlay or floor can also be involved. Explain when you first noticed it, whether it returns after drying and whether the carpet is damp. Perfume can hide a smell temporarily without removing the material causing it.

Deodorising and deeper treatment are different

Suitable deodorising is included in the cleaning guide. More extensive contamination or work beneath the carpet needs separate discussion and pricing. We explain the proposed treatment and its limits before starting. Do not assume that a standard room clean includes lifting carpet, replacing underlay or repairing a damp problem.

Pet accidents need a separate history

Tell us about repeat accidents, the size of the affected area and any attempted treatments. Urine residue can travel beyond the visible mark, so the photograph alone may not show the full problem. Carpet cleaning may improve the surface while a deeper odour source remains.

Damp or musty smells need care

If there is a leak, continuing dampness or suspected mould, explain that before booking a clean. The underlying moisture problem needs appropriate investigation. Adding water to an unresolved damp area may not be suitable. This service is not a substitute for building repairs or specialist mould assessment.

Drying is part of the plan

Discuss ventilation and the time available before normal room use. Follow the aftercare instructions for the material and treatment, rather than covering a damp area with rugs or furniture. If a smell returns, record where and when you notice it and contact us with that information.

What to include in the quote request

Send a wider room photo, close views of any marks, your postcode and the carpet’s material if known. Bedroom carpet cleaning starts from £35; specialist odour work is assessed for the affected area and depth. We agree the price before work begins and do not guarantee complete odour removal.
